Video: What Mosquitoes Carry Zika?

Most Americans — 91 percent, in fact — know that the Zika virus is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes, according to a survey conducted last month by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. But do they know which species carry and transmit the virus? Half of Americans are also concerned that the virus will spread to where they live, the survey shows. But do they know where these mosquitoes live in the United States?

Check out FlackCheck.org’s new video for the answers to these questions and more. And see SciCheck’s Feb. 23 Ask FactCheck for a debunking of the myth that genetically modified mosquitoes are behind the Zika outbreak in Brazil. (Earlier in February, SciCheck looked into claims about the virus and a possible link to microcephaly.)
