Video: Trump’s Budget Double Count

President Donald Trump’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2018 is the subject of this week’s fact-checking video from CNN’s Jake Tapper.

The Trump administration says it expects 3 percent economic growth to pay for big tax cuts and balance the budget in 10 years. But budget experts say Trump can’t have it both ways. Either the growth pays for the tax cuts, or it pays for bringing the budget to balance.

“The same money cannot be used twice,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.
