This week we celebrated our 15th year of holding politicians accountable.
We have been able to keep the fact-checks coming in part because of your support. We hope that you will be as generous this year as you have been in the past.
In 2018, we have been very busy covering a bitter midterm election, an active president and a divided Congress that could not agree on the Russia investigation, immigration or a Supreme Court nominee.
We published a three-part series on the issues that President Donald Trump stressed at his midterm campaign rallies: immigration, health care and the economy. In those articles, we covered about two dozen false and misleading claims that the president made in seven rallies over 12 days.
We also wrote a four-part series on the issues that Democrats repeatedly raised about Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s record: abortion rights, executive privilege, the Second Amendment and the Affordable Care Act.
We trained a new class of undergraduate fellows, brought on a new SciCheck reporter and expanded our staff to increase our coverage of viral deceptions on social media.
And we were able to do all of that — and more — in part because of donations from our readers.
In 2010, we started to accept contributions from individual donors. Since then, we have received about $850,000 in individual donations – which have helped supplement our founding grant from the Annenberg Foundation.
We don’t accept advertising. We don’t accept donations from labor unions, corporations or anyone active in politics. We increasingly rely on readers like you to continue our work.
